Ballack warning for captain Lahm

Michael Ballack has warned Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm he fully intends to captain Germany in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

The 33-year-old, who joined former club Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer in the summer, was ruled out of the World Cup by an ankle injury suffered on his last appearance for Chelsea, in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.

In his absence Lahm led a spirited young team to the semi-finals in South Africa, having famously thrashed England 4-1 along the way, before finishing third.

However, the 26-year-old Lahm maintains he has no intentions of giving up the captain's armband voluntarily.

Ballack, though, insists he is the man to now take Germany's next generation forward - and will let Lahm know exactly that when the pair eventually come face to face, likely to be for the opening Euro 2012 qualifier against Belgium in Brussels on September 3.

"Philipp's remarks were not warranted, even though the timing of his remarks was unfortunate because I was out injured and could not mount my own defence," Ballack told ESPN Soccernet.

"Still, players can't tell the coach where to pick them and the same applies to the captaincy.

"You have to respect the hierarchy and when we next meet up, I will talk the matter over with Philipp."

Ballack declared: "For me, the matter is clear - I am the captain of Germany and intend to take on the role again when I am fit.

"I can't wait to lead Germany into the Euro 2012 qualifiers and make a success of it.

"I believe in myself as the captain and think I have the personality to do it.

"Missing this year's World Cup due to injury was a real blow and there is no way I am about to settle for a final curtain like that.

"I am still hungry and when you are sidelined at just the wrong moment you become even hungrier.

"I know I can still contribute to a Leverkusen side on the verge of great things."

Germany coach Joachim Low may be looking to the future, but Ballack, who turns 34 at the end of September, insists he still has plenty to offer.

"Not for one instant do I feel like a player in decline," he said.

"Before being ruled out of the World Cup, I was at the heart of the national team and even though the boys played well in South Africa, I am not ready to throw in the towel.


"My motivation is still intact and once I have proved my fitness and form with Leverkusen, I want to return to the national team."

Ballack did not have his Chelsea contract renewed when it expired in the summer, and like England winger Joe Cole, he was allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Although it was no surprise to see Ballack - signed by Chelsea on a Bosman from Bayern Munich during May 2006 - return to the Bundesliga, the German midfielder would have preferred to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"I would have loved to finish my career at Chelsea, and they were my number one option when my contract expired last summer," Ballack said.

"I was a little disappointed when we could not come to an agreement on a new contract because at one point, I thought we would get there.

"I know I had the backing of the coach (Carlo Ancelotti), but unfortunately it didn't happen and I had to move on to my next challenge with Leverkusen."

Ballack maintained: "I don't feel any bitterness towards Chelsea and I hope they keep on winning.

"Chelsea is a special club where I spent four great years and we won many trophies.

"I was treated very well by the people at the club and there was always a great spirit in the squad.

"We had many champions in the team, six or seven national team captains, and yet our biggest asset was unity, with all these top-class players putting egos in their pockets for the good of the team. It is pretty unique in my opinion.

"Ancelotti is an excellent organiser, they have the footballing ability, character and physical strength. I see them as one of the favourites for the Champions League in 2011."

1 vé cho Schweini.... b13 thì có lẽ...thời điểm này nói lời củm ơn công sức a ấy dc rùi đấy..., chưa chắc j mùa này a ấy đã lấy lại dc 1/2 phong độ như khi xưa đá ở bayer và bayern....còn Lahm, hok hỉu sao kể từ vụ gây lủng củng nội bộ trước trận gặp TBN là thấy mất cảm tình rùi,mất điểm trầm trọng...thêm nữa...dấu ấn trong 2 trận thua ở wc của đội trưởng... là rất mờ nhạt, hok thấy 1 chút j gọi là vực dậy niềm tin của toàn đội ( ý kiến e thế, ai thấy hok phải thì...cũng đừng chém e)...trong 2 trận đó, cầu thủ đá cố gắng nhất, cố vực dậy tinh thần của đội nhất, và cũng là chỗ đàn e tin tưởng nhất trên sân lại chính là schweini.... hiện tại thì thấy Schweini là đậm chất thủ lĩnh nhất trong đội tuyển (sau b13) và lại có phong độ + trình độ dạng cao nhất nhì ở tuyển....=> xứng đáng nhất.

vả lại bi giờ nếu b13 làm đội trưởng thì Lahm tất nhiên hok chịu, bực dọc...còn ngược lại Lahm làm đội trưởng có khi B13 hok thèm đá tuyển lun.... còn nếu là schweini thì...có lẽ cả 2 sẽ ngậm bồ hòn làm ngọt thui

Ballack năm nay đã 34 tuổi, rất khó để anh có thể duy trì được 1 phong độ cao và ổn định, cũng như ko chắc chắn rằng anh sẽ luôn là một undisputed starter ở đội tuyển. Chúng ta có lẽ cần sự thay đổi.
Thật sự mà nói, Schweni có tố chất thủ lĩnh hơn la Lahm, chúng ta có thể thấy nét mặt của Schweini "dữ" hơn Lahm, cũng như chất Đức, khả năng hò hét đồng đội, vực dậy cả đội là tốt hơn Lahm. Lahm có vẻ hiền quá. Hơn nữa chúng ta cũng nên cân nhắc về vị trí trên sân. Ở vị trí tiền vệ phòng ngự, Schweini có thể có được tầm bao quát tốt hơn vị trí hậu vệ trái của Lahm. Anh có thể có mặt ở mọi điểm nóng, dac biệt là ở các tình huống tranh chấp giữa sân.

Germany (AFP) - Six out of ten Germans think Philipp Lahm should keep the captain's armband for Germany's national side, rather than see Michael Ballack regain the captaincy.

German sports agency SID, an AFP subsidiary, authorised a poll which saw 60.3 percent of those surveyed say Bayern Munich defender Lahm should remain captain having led Germany to third at the World Cup.

Only 26.2 percent of those polled thought Ballack, who missed the 2010 World Cup with an ankle injury, should be made captain for Germany's first Euro 2012 qualifier against Belgium in Brussels on September 3.

According to the survey, Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is the best player in the team after winning 20.9 percent of the vote, ahead of Thomas Mueller (11.9) and Lahm (13.4).

Ballack, back in the Bundesliga this season after four years at Chelsea, was voted fourth with 10.4 percent.

Hai trận vừa qua của Ballack ở Leverkusen thật là tồi tệ.Ballack chơi mờ nhạt đến mức không thể tin nổi!Có lẽ bây giờ Mannschaft cần một nhạc trưởng-1 thủ lĩnh mới ở tuyến giữa-Đó chỉ có thể Schweinsteiger!

Basti mới xứng đáng là đội trưởng của Manns hơn Lahm, Lahm là cầu thủ cần cù, thi đấu hết mình nhưng khả năng ảnh hưởng đến đồng đội hầu như ko có.
Tại WC vừa qua những pha Manns bị thổi phạt hay đồng đội hỏng ăn thì chỉ thấy Basti lại tranh cãi với trọng tài hay an ủi đồng đội, còn Lahm thì lặn mất.
Từ nét mặt, phong cách thi đấu trên sân chỉ thấy Basti là đúng nghĩa 1 đội trưởng.
